We’re a gym, but we’re not just a gym. The YMCA is about being a charity, but we’re not just a charity. We’re about families, but we’re also about singles, college students, new couples and empty-nesters.
Our programs build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
We see a future filled with positive change. And to ensure we’re a driving force behind this, we’ve embraced a very bold and important vision:
Become one of the country’s ten healthiest communities by 2025.
We know that reaching this goal won’t be easy. But with the support of a thriving community, we’re confident that, together, we can do it.
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Being a force for positive change in our community means being focused. Here are the areas we’re concentrating on, one person at a time:
Our YMCA is committed to living out Christian values. We want to genuinely LOVE, SERVE and CARE for people within the YMCA community. We have Christian resources available for our members, volunteers and staff should they desire. If you want to get connected to a Bible study, would like to talk with a YMCA Chaplain or need help finding a local Church, please feel free to contact YMCA Pastor Josh Heaston at (317) 713-8579 or jheaston@indymca.org. We care about you – body mind and spirit!
The original YMCA was born in London, England, in 1844. The beginning of the YMCA in Central Indiana goes back nearly as far: 1854, to be exact. That’s more than 150 years of focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility here in Greater Indianapolis. We’ve endured wars, floods, recessions and depressions. And we’ve always responded by being here for our neighbors.
Today, our facility and program centers serve more than 200,000 people from every age and walk of life—providing over $7 million in scholarships, program subsidies and underwritten programs in low-income communities.
It’s a big job, but somebody’s got to do it. And we’re here, for you.
The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is committed to creating an environment where every individual regardless of race/ethnic identity, gender, age, socioeconomics, language, ability, and background has an opportunity to thrive. We believe that we should reflect the communities that we serve and value the contributions of our diverse communities. We are committed to creating a welcoming place for all by identifying and removing barriers in hiring practices, membership policies, and program offerings that inhibit our ability to create a positive, welcoming place for all.

From YMCA executives to volunteer leadership, everyone here is passionate about making Greater Indianapolis a better, healthier place.
The YMCA is much more than a gym. At the Y we nurture positive change and we celebrate the daily achievements, big and small, experienced by our members and program participants.
