Here for You and Our Community
We’re a gym, but we’re not just a gym. We’re a charity, but we’re not just a charity. We’re about families, but we’re also about singles, college students, new couples and empty-nesters. Above all, we’re about community.
We see a future filled with positive change. And to ensure we’re a driving force behind this, we’ve embraced two very bold and important vision statements:
- Become one of the country’s ten healthiest communities by 2025.
- Understanding that a child’s future success is shaped by age three, Indianapolis will be the U.S. model for “zero to three” child development.
We know that reaching these goals won’t be easy. But with the support of a thriving community, we’re confident that, together, we can do it.
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Our Areas of Focus
Being a force for positive change in our community means being focused. Here are the areas we’re concentrating on, one person at a time:
Our YMCA is committed to living out Christian values. We want to genuinely LOVE, SERVE and CARE for people within the YMCA community. We have Christian resources available for our members, volunteers and staff should they desire. If you want to get connected to a Bible study, would like to talk with a YMCA Chaplain or need help finding a local Church, please feel free to contact YMCA Pastor Josh Heaston at (317) 713-8579 or email@example.com. We care about you – body mind and spirit!
The original YMCA was born in London, England, in 1844. The beginning of the YMCA in Central Indiana goes back nearly as far: 1854, to be exact. That’s more than 150 years of focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility here in Greater Indianapolis. We’ve endured wars, floods, recessions and depressions. And we’ve always responded by being here for our neighbors.
Today, our 12 facility centers and 3 program centers serve more than 200,000 people from every age and walk of life—providing over $7 million in scholarships, program subsidies and underwritten programs in low-income communities.
It’s a big job, but somebody’s got to do it.
Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion through Global Work
As a vital part of Central Indiana, we believe the YMCA should reflect the community at large. Walk into any of our centers, and you’ll see this is no empty promise. We’re every bit as thriving and diverse as Indianapolis itself. And we’re committed to doing everything we can—from our hiring practices to our membership policies—to remaining a positive, welcoming place for all.
