The Benjamin Harrison YMCA aims to improve the well-being of our community. And our goal is to be there with you as you choose a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, our adult fitness classes and wellness programs help to promote and reinforce the importance of physical activity and healthy habits.

Learn a new sport or enhance your current skills through the sports programs and clinics offered year-round at the Y. And the variety of our sports programming will help individuals make healthy choices, build relationships, and improve their physical condition. More importantly, the supportive environment that surrounds the YMCA leads to an enjoyable time and participants see the benefits of being healthy and active.

Adult Exercise

Beginner Yoga

Yoga will improve your flexibility and strengthen your core muscles while banishing stress and tension.

BodyAttack® by Les Mills

BodyAttack® is a high energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts.

We combine athletic moves like running lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats. A LES MILLS instructor will pump out energizing tunes and lead you through the workout-challenging your limits in a good way, burning up to 730 calories and leaving you with a sense of achievement.

BodyPump™ by Les Mills

BODYPUMP is for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit fast.

Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. It will burn up to 540 calories. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically proven moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music- helping you achieve much more than on your own! You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.

Enhance Fitness (Arthritis Management)

Helping Adults with Arthritis or Limited Mobility

Stay active, energized, and empowered in this proven, community-based  fitness and arthritis management program.

Safe, yet challenging, low impact exercises help adults of all fitness levels live independent lifestyles. This program is nationally recognized by the leading US health organizations.

  • Enhance Fitness is designed for adults with Arthritis or mobility challenges/limited mobility.
  • Through EnhanceFitness, participants will work to: increase flexibility, relieve stress, improve arthritic joint stiffness, and decrease their risk of falls and injury.
  • All exercises may be performed seated or standing.
  • Classes are one hour, 3 times per week and led by a certified instructor. They begin with a warm-up period, followed by work with light soft-weights, and finish with a cool-down session.

Heartsaver® CPR / AED

Heartsaver® CPR AED is a video-based, instructor-led course

The course teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

Stage 1 / Water Acclimation

This program increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance.

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water in stage 1. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in swimming.

This swim program encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Stage 3 / Water Stamina

This swim program develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages

In stage 3, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

Stage 4 / Stroke Introduction

This swim program introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl

Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke. Students in stage 4 develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.


  • Endurance – any stroke or combination of strokes, 25 yd.
  • Front Crawl – rotary breathing, 15 yd.

This swim program introduces breast-stroke and butterfly

Water safety is reinforced through treading water and sidestroke. Students in stage 5 work on stroke technique and learn all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke.

Encourages participants to include swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle. In stage 6, students refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

Aqua HIIT

Aqua HIIT (Aqua High Intensity Interval Training) is designed for those who are ready to push themselves to new levels of physical fitness.

The high intensity format allows you to continue to burn calories and receive cardiovascular benefits even after you complete the work out. The water allows you to do this in an environment that reduces impact and provides strength and cardio work at the same time. It is truly a class designed for those who want to get the most out of there fitness routine and their time.

Water Arthritis

This is the perfect class for those with flexibility and stiffness issues

With a RPE rating of 2-3 this class is perfect for participants with Arthritis, Fibromyalgia or recovering from injury. Warmth and buoyancy of water can decrease pain and/or stiffness and improve joint flexibility.
