Local tours, service projects highlight the event along speakers, workshops, fitness and fun

The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis will host 1,100 YMCA professionals from the U.S., Canada and Mexico and dozens more from around the world for the 38th annual NAYDO Conference on YMCA Philanthropy April 3 – 6 at the Marriott Indyplace in Indianapolis.

Hundreds of development, marketing and camping professionals along with YMCA board members and volunteers will also tour local YMCAs and complete service projects. Fitness-minded conference-goers can also do Sleepy Yoga, a NAYDO 5K run/walk and Ballet Barre, attend morning devotions, explore downtown Indy and enjoy a spectacular celebration at the Dallara IndyCar Factory.

With a “Rev Up Your Cause” theme, speakers aim to inspire and strengthen the philanthropic culture of the Y and hale from YMCAs in Quebec, Calgary, Vancouver, Lafayette (IN), Twin Cities (MN), Birmingham (AL), Long Beach (CA), Fort Worth (TX) and YMCA of the USA, among others.

April 4 

  • New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff will share highlights from his book, “Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done” and other inspiring insights.
  • Greater Indy residents Eric and Amy Sheppard will speak about how they became the first husband/wife duo to compete on American Ninja Warrior with financial assistance and lots of encouragement from the YMCA.

April 5 

  • The Impact Awards Luncheon will recognize the best in YMCA fundraising and storytelling. The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis earned the Communications Award for the “Y Loves Vets” capital campaign for the OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA in 2018 and the prestigious Eagle Award for fundraising excellence in 2017.
  • Samantha Schultz, wellness coordinator at the Benjamin Harrison YMCA in Indianapolis, will share her heartwarming story about how the Y and other local nonprofits helped her literally get back on her feet after a traumatic brain injury.
