What Members Can Expect

Updated: Monday, August 24, 2020

The health and well-being of our members, staff and community is our priority. We’re continuing to take extra precautions in our Ys, including health screenings, social/physical distancing and enhanced cleaning protocols, with guidance from state and local authorities. Please stay tuned for updates as we respond to evolving guidelines.

WE ARE EXCITED TO WELCOME YOU TO THE Y!

Please read below to review our YMCA MEMBER GUIDE to become familiar with what you can expect in our facilities.

Please keep in mind, these guidelines are subject to change, and as we continue to align with state and local guidance, we’ll update this information.

Hours for all YMCA of Greater Indianapolis Centers are Monday – Friday 5 AM – 8 PM, with regular weekend hours. Please note the YMCA at the City Market will remain closed at this time.

Please read below for other details.

The health and well-being of our members, staff and our community remains our top priority. In support of the Governor’s #MaskUpHoosiers initiative, all YMCA of Greater Indianapolis locations started requiring masks on Thursday, July 9.

  • Please remember to bring your mask. Everyone 3 years of age and older must wear a mask to enter our YMCAs. (There are specific exceptions for physical, medical or health-related reasons. Please stop at our welcome desk if assistance is needed.)

  • Masks will be required inside all of our YMCAs except when actively exercising and during brief periods of recovery (2 minutes or less) immediately after exercise or between machines during your circuit. Masks are required when preparing to exercise, when stretching, and during periods of extended rest (more than 2 minutes).

  • Masks will be required when entering and exiting our outdoor pool areas and when walking the pool deck. Masks will not be required when swimming, when seated in socially distanced deck chairs or when moving from deck chairs to the pool.

  • Masks will be required in our youth programs for all participants ages 3 and older. Our instructors and coaches will help children know when it’s okay to remove their masks during appropriate activities.

  • You will be asked two short health screening questions before you enter the Y (Please refer to “Your Well-Being is Our Top Priority” below).

  • Children under the age of 14 in the building must be accompanied by an adult.  Children 11+ are allowed in the building  after 2pm Mon-Fri and on the weekends.

  • Our Play & Learn Centers (Childcare) are accepting children at least 6 weeks old. Parents will be asked two short health screening questions before their child may be admitted (Please refer to “Your Well-Being is Our Top Priority” and “Childcare” below).

  • You will see signs around the centers to help facilitate physical distancing in each area, such as in the lobby, in locker rooms, on the pool deck, in studios, in the gym, and on the workout equipment. Thank you for respecting these guidelines.

  • In the current phase of reopening, pool times will be scheduled to ensure we maintain proper physical distancing. Please check specific location schedules for open swim times and aquatics classes.

  • Please select your YMCA Center in the “Schedules” drop-down menu for group exercise opportunities.

  • Open Gym will observe physical distancing. Please bring your own basketball for “hoops practice.”

  • Guest Pass sales and redemption and Nationwide Membership access are temporarily suspended.

  • Coffee service, towel service, and loaned items such as locks, yoga mats and basketballs have been suspended. (Please refer to “What Should I Bring?” below)

At the YMCA, your health and well-being is our priority.

As our state continues to reopen for business, the Governor is reminding us the fight against COVID-19 is not over, and wearing a face mask is one of the simplest, most effective ways to slow the spread of the virus. Thank you for joining the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis to help keep Indiana on track and allow our YMCAs to continue to serve our community.

Please remember to bring your mask. Everyone 3 years of age and older must wear a mask to enter our YMCAs. (There are specific exceptions for physical, medical or health-related reasons. Please stop at our welcome desk if assistance is needed.)

When you first arrive at the Y, you will see two Health Screening Questions:

1)  Do you have a Fever of 100.4 or greater, or any of the following COVID-19 symptoms: Cough, Shortness of Breath, or Difficulty Breathing?

  • If so, thank you for waiting to visit the Y until you are symptom-free without medication for 24 hours.

2)  In the last 14 days, have you been in close contact (within 6 feet) with someone who has a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis?

  • If so, thank you for waiting to visit the Y until you are symptom-free for 14 days after your last contact with them.

For First Responders and Medical  Personnel, we ask that you please check in at the Member Services Desk.

CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWS FOR SOCIAL/PHYSICAL DISTANCING

Throughout our facilities, we will be practicing social/physical distancing with spacing at least 6ft apart in all areas of the Y, including in locker rooms. In some cases, additional spacing will be required. There are plenty of signs throughout the building to indicate this.

  • Floor markers at check in
  • Touch-free check in using your phone or key tag
  • Protective barriers at check in kiosks and individual membership desks
  • Reorganized furniture in gathering areas, including lobby furniture and pool deck seating
  • Facility use is currently reserved for members only (Guest Pass sales and redemption and Nationwide Membership access is currently suspended)

ENHANCING FACILITY CLEANLINESS

  • We have always taken pride and extra care in our sanitation efforts. In addition to regular cleaning during the day, our facilities are misted each night with a broad-spectrum disinfectant. In our high traffic areas, you may also see a room or section temporarily closed so that additional cleaning may be done during the day. For our members, you will see increased access to hand sanitizer and equipment cleaning stations as well as additional signage throughout the buildings.
  • We encourage everyone to wash their hands frequently, as well as clean equipment before and after use. Cleaning towels and spray will be provided for you. Please bring your own “sweat towel.”

SUPPORTING AND MONITORING OUR STAFF WELLNESS

  • Staff members will receive a temperature check and health screening prior to starting their shift each day.
  • Staff will be asked to wear masks unless it prohibits their ability to effectively perform their job, such as on-duty lifeguards.

Summer Childcare

We are busy planning summer childcare programs that are full of life-changing experiences, unforgettable memories, and that keep the health and well-being of kids, their families, and our staff our top priority. Summer childcare enrollment opened Friday, May 22. For more information on summer childcare, please click here .

Play & Learn

PLEASE NOTE: Play & Learn is currently open with limited hours.

Play & Learn drop in care is being offered to household members for children at least 6 weeks old. Masks will be required for children ages 3 and older beginning Thursday, July 9. There are maximum group sizes of 25, with caps on the number of children served.

Parents will be asked two short health screening questions before their child may be admitted:

1)  Do you have a Fever of 100.4 or greater, or any of the following COVID-19 symptoms: Cough, Shortness of Breath, or Difficulty Breathing?

  • If so, thank you for waiting to visit the Y until you are symptom-free without medication for 24 hours.

2)  In the last 14 days, have you been in close contact (within 6 feet) with someone who has a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis?

  • If so, thank you for waiting to visit the Y until you are symptom-free for 14 days after your last contact with them.
