Family finds escape at the Baxter Y while battling cancerPublished: Monday, February 12, 2018The Tucker family has a history at the Baxter YMCA. Tarah grew up attending Y programs, and now brings her husband, Ben, and three children, Caleb, Grace, and Luke, here as well. Caleb was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and their world turned upside down. Treatment costs for Caleb forced Tarah and Ben to reevaluate their budgetary needs. And the Y didn’t fit into the budget. When the staff at the Y heard of the Tucker family’s situation, they offered them a member scholarship during Caleb’s treatment. An escape from battling cancer The family needed the Y to escape from the reality of cancer treatments and doctor visits, and Grace and Luke needed to feel that it was “business as usual”. The Tucker children were able to continue with swim lessons and basketball, and Tarah was able to find respite at the Y. Done battling cancer Caleb is in remission and able to enjoy all of the same programs he loved before his diagnosis. His joy and strength are an inspiration to those who meet him, and he will continue to shine as part of the Baxter YMCA family.
