Helping Others While Gaining Experience

THE BAXTER YMCA IS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE JUST LIKE YOU!

We pride ourselves on our cleanliness

Are you a college student working on next steps in your plan for the future? Are you currently looking for a part-time job that checks all of the boxes for what matters to you most, such as meeting new and interesting people, working with fun and like minded individuals, helping others meet their goals by addressing their personal needs, gaining experience in a field that enhances your studies, and flexibility?

The Baxter YMCA is on the lookout for Wellness Advisors! As a Wellness Advisor you get to interact with new and current members. You will introduce them to the equipment and connect them to programs designed to help them reach their goals. You will work on the cutting edge of the Wellness Industry with tools such as Les Mills VirtualMyZone, and E-Gym while teaching others how to use this equipment. You will be able to listen, tune in, and prescribe exactly what they need while tailoring the appointment to the individual. While working one on one with members you will gain great insight and experience which are beneficial for those working on a degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy.

“Our Wellness Advisors have one of the most important jobs of any YMCA staff.  For that new member, they are the face of the YMCA, the first person they connect with, and the first person that supports them in reaching their health and fitness goals”, explains Wellness Director, Bobbi Finley.  She goes on to say, “Wellness Advisors change lives.  I’ve sat in rooms and listened to speeches given from members about how their Wellness Advisor kept them coming back to the Y when they felt like no one else supported them, and because of it, that member lost weight, lowered their blood pressure, and now feels better and healthier than they ever have.”

WHY THE Y?

What do you know about the YMCA as an organization? Here are a few tidbits of information that may fill in the blanks:

• The Y is community centered. For nearly 160 years, we’ve been listening and responding to our communities.
• The Y brings people together. We connect people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the gaps in community needs.
• The Y nurtures potential. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
• The Y has local presence and global reach. We mobilize local communities to affect lasting, meaningful change.

IS THE YMCA CONSIDERED A GYM?

We are a gym, but we are not just a gym. The YMCA is about being a charity, but we’re not just a charity. We are about families, but we are also about singles, college students, new couples and empty-nesters. Above all, we’re about community. Our programs build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

WHAT IS OUR VISION?

We see a future filled with positive change. And to ensure we’re a driving force behind this, we’ve embraced a very bold and important vision, become one of the country’s ten healthiest communities by 2025!  We know that reaching this goal won’t be easy. But with the support of a thriving community, we’re confident that, together, we can do it.

The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis aims to improve the well being of our community. And our goal is to be there with you as you choose a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, our adult fitness classes and wellness programs help to promote and reinforce the importance of physical activity and healthy habits.
