What Will Your Child Do Before And After School?

April 22, 2019
NEWS + STORIES

You don’t have to worry about your children when you can’t be with them. It’s time to enroll in the 2019-20 Before & After School program. Kids get a snack, help with homework and do these fun—really fun—enrichment activities with the Y’s trained and caring staff:

  • Group games
  • Indoor/outdoor physical activities
  • Art projects
  • STEM activities
  • Leadership development
  • Global learning & inclusion
  • College and career readiness
  • Family & parent engagement, and service learning

Too many kids are home alone before and after school

Indiana Afterschool Network says 68% of Indiana children have both parents in the workplace and only 11% of them participate in afterschool programs. That means nearly 222,000 of Indiana’s children are home alone in the afternoons, including kindergarteners.

After school programs keep kids safe, accelerate learning and help working families. The hours your kids aren’t in school represent the highest crime and most at-risk times for youth.

Over 100 locations

The Y provides Before & After School care to 8,000+ children at over 100 locations and is the largest provider of these programs in Indianapolis.

These Y and school locations are safe places for students to learn and explore in an enriching environment. Children build relationships, have a sense of belonging, and get a chance to try new things.

What about school breaks and snow days?

We’re also open whenever school is out, so you know the kids will be cared for during two-hour delays and on snow days, school breaks and holidays.

Scholarships available for before and after school care

Like Edith and Meme, not every parent can be with their child before and after school or afford to pay for the program. That is why we offer scholarships to families who qualify. Just find the program that’s right for you and ask about it when enrolling. You’re also welcome to contribute to the Y’s Annual Campaign that helps fund these scholarships.
