After her kids hit the toddler stage, Alyssa realized how out of shape she was. She was struggling to keep up with them and knew she needed to make a change. She has never been a gym person and cardio was last on the list, until she found the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA and Les Mills BodyAttack.
Falling in love with BodyAttack
In the spring of 2018, Alyssa went to her first Les Mills BodyAttack class feeling embarrassed, nervous and uncomfortable. She thought about turning around and walking out until the instructor welcomed her to the class and gave her words of encouragement before, during and after the workout. She was hooked.
Alyssa loves attending BodyAttack classes because there are modifications for every level. When she first started out, she couldn’t do jumping jacks but was inspired by her instructor to come back week after week and work on hitting full range of motion in the different movements.
Finding a new confidence
After a few months, Alyssa noticed a difference in both her attitude and appearance. She was making better choices, going on longer walks, had more endurance, trying new classes and truly enjoying working out.
“BodyAttack has made me want to keep coming back and invite more people to join me. Rachel made air jacks, running in circles and cardio, in general, something I look forward to. She is always right there struggling and sweating with us - she helped me personally stay accountable!”
Alyssa wants others to know that it gets easier and to not get discouraged.
“I haven’t met one instructor who isn’t ready and willing to help in any way they can. They say ‘Great job today, hope you come back!’ and hearing that makes me think; I don’t want to give up. I’m coming back tomorrow. I've got this.”
Through persistence and encouragement, Alyssa has lost close to 40 lbs.!
