What is one thing you wish everyone knew about fitness? A fitness routine is not the only step. There are several key “ingredients” to a successful wellness quest. It’s important to set realistic goals in stages along this journey. Areas of interest: Pre- and post-natal training, triathlon training, cycling, youth and active older adults. Favorite exercise: The lunge. What do you do outside of the Y? I love spending time with my family and friends. I also love to bike, compete in triathlons, travel and watch live sports. One interesting fact about you: I completed a half Ironman when I was 19.5 weeks pregnant! I work in state government and have a family. One interesting fact about you: I love music and played the saxophone in school. What is one thing you wish everyone knew about fitness? There are so many ways to get fit, try new things… or invest in a Personal Trainer. Areas of interest in training: I like to use free weights and functional equipment with my clients. I enjoy training teens and adults who are willing to do their best every day. Favorite exercise: Rowing machine and functional workouts. What do you do outside of the Y? I also work at the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. One interesting fact about you: I threw discus, hammer, weight and shot put at Western Michigan University. Favorite exercise: Walking, hiking, running with my treadmill classes and TRX! What do you do outside of the Y? Quiet times reading & quiet walks. Time spent with people in my life. Fitness isn’t easy but it isn’t cutting out every ounce of fat and sugar or eating only certain kinds of food or exercising hard every waking moment…moderation is key. Areas of interest in training: Seniors and young adults. Favorite exercise: Burpees…it’s a love/hate relationship. What do you do outside of the Y? I spend most of my time driving, coordinating calendars and trying to figure out what is for dinner for my family of four active kids. I work part-time as a legal assistant for a law firm, and I have been in the Army National Guard since 2011. One interesting fact about you: I compete in NPC Bodybuilding shows. Every client and situation will be different, so no day will be the same as the one before. What is one thing you wish everyone knew about fitness? Fast is easy, slow is hard! Proper form and execution are more important, and effective, than speeding through movement with improper form. Areas of interest in training: Functional training and corrective exercise. Favorite exercises: Planks! There are endless variations, can be done with or without equipment and is an excellent comprehensive exercise for the upper body and core. What do you do outside of the Y? I work, spend time with my son, exercise, and enjoy spending time outdoors. One interesting fact about you:I never played or watched sports and was never athletic growing up.
