A guest blog from Tim Arvin on behalf of YMCA Member Services Representatives, who are here to serve you!
From ear to ear is as important as from the nose to the toes. The brain helps you accomplish the goals and objectives you desire.
You might have heard me say, “I hope and pray that something I say…will get you to the Y.” As 2019 begins, I want to encourage you, from your head to your toes and from ear to ear. This is where the road to progress begins and unfortunately, sometimes ends — the brain, nestled right between your ears.
Zig Ziglar says, “We need to give ourselves a checkup from the neck up."
We all start coming to the Y for different reasons and at different speeds. Some start off fast and hard, coming every day, sometimes even more than once a day. Others start off nice and slow, coming once in a while, or only for large events.
Find YOUR sweet spot
Allowing yourself to create and maintain a schedule enables you to crush your goals. We’ve found that the sweet spot for many is coming in two to three times a week for 30-45 minutes of pure exercise (actual time in exercise/workout).
Each week, we receive 168 God-given hours. With 60-90 minutes of pure exercise a week, you’re utilizing less than 1% of your weekly time. The return you may receive from working out exceeds those of not.
The Y’s mission is to improve the spirit, mind and body. In my conversations with members, no one has ever said, “Sorry Tim, I come a few times each week and it just doesn’t work for me.”
Don't fall into the trap
Don’t fall into the trap of waiting until you’re less busy, fully recovered or for grief to pass. Exercise releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones we all need, allowing us to feel more positive about life situations.
Between the ears is just the start. At the Y, we’re really great about helping with the nose to the toes, too.
With a variety of classes and literally endless options, YMCA wellness appointments and fitness advisers can give you the tools you need to succeed. Our staff will show you how to use the machines and give you advice on how to accomplish your goals and objectives. We want what you want – for you to succeed.
Engage your whole body this year
In 2019, I challenge you to not only take care of yourself from your head to your toes, but from ear to ear as well. Come in, find that sweet spot. Take advantage of free wellness appointments and get on track to a healthier, happier you.
I’ll be here every step of the way for any encouragement or accountability you may need. Reach me at 317.357.8441 x218 or at tarvin@indymca.org. You can also reach out to trainers and staff at any YMCA at any time, but don’t wait—the time is now. Good luck!
Sincerely,
