Tuesday, November 28th is Giving Tuesday. "Giving Tuesday is a movement that unleashes the power of radical generosity around the world." -
GivingTuesday.org. The Idea was started in 2012 as a day to simply encourage people to do good.
Intercollegiate YMCA Enriching Children's Lives
You can help the Intercollegiate YMCA continue to enrich the lives of youth in low income areas of Indianapolis through your donations. Laurelwood is one of our biggest program sites on the south side of Indianapolis and Jada is a regular at the program. The vibrant 3rd grader is a natural leader in the group of elementary students.
"These people have inspired me," she says referring to the college students who volunteer at Laurelwood. Despite her love for school and reading, she was failing at the end of her 1st semester. She started attending our after-school program and within a semester she brought her 'F' up to a 'C'.
"My homework has a lot to do with my grades and they helped me with it. They helped me learn how to study," says Jada. The extra help after school has paid off. She will be ending the semester with a 'B'. Jada credits her improvements to the after-school program and one day hopes to be able to help children like her find a love and passion for learning.
