Charles (Chuck) and Carolyn Culp joined the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program at Hendricks Regional Health YMCA back in January of 2015. Both are cancer survivors and were looking to make some big lifestyle changes. Before their cancer diagnoses, they took daily walks and rode their bikes.
Over the years, between surgeries and treatments, they noticed their stamina and overall health decreased. Cancer, in general, negatively impacted their energy levels and made exercise very difficult. Both wanted to make a change and were introduced to the program their family physician suggested for them.
Since completing the program, Chuck has reduced his blood pressure medicine, lost weight increased his lung capacity and stamina. Carolyn has also experienced weight loss, gained more energy and has improved her balance. Both agree that not only have they seen health benefits, but this has also helped their relationship by supporting each other through the diagnosis stage, the treatment stage and now, the journey to a healthier lifestyle. They credit much of their success to the support of each other and to their instructor. They are very grateful for the opportunity to participate in the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program and are now members at the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA.
