Making a difference, one child at a time.
The end of the summer was approaching, and Keonia had a lot on her mind, particularly what she was going to do with her son, Marion, during her weekly dialysis treatments. As a single mom suffering from visual impairments and kidney and pancreatic failure, Keonia was desperately in need of some support.
For many families in crisis, the school year is a welcomed break due to not needing childcare during the day. However, when summer arrives, many families still need that support, including Keonia’s. When summer started, Keonia didn’t have a place for Marion to go, so she had to stop attending her dialysis treatments. She felt she had no other options.
Keonia was connected with the YMCA through a local agency. After hearing her story, the Y wanted to help and was able to offer Marion a full scholarship to attend camp for the summer! This ensured he had a safe and fun place to be, and that Keonia could continue her treatments.
“It really meant a lot to me to see him happy, because I want him to be a kid. I don’t want him to worry about me,” said Keonia.
Success stories like Keonia and Marion’s happen every day at the YMCA, and it is thanks to generous donors like you. Thank you for your continued support of your community! CLICK HERE to support the kids like Marion!
