Camp is something every child should experience

We know it’s crazy. It’s January. It’s cold. We are about as far away from summer as you can get. And we want to talk about CAMP!

It’s time to start talking about camp, because it will be here before you know it. And we want to make sure you are prepared. Summer is an opportunity for so many things—for fun, creativity, learning and growing. But sadly also boredom, loneliness, and too much screen time.

This is why we strongly believe camp is something every child should have the opportunity to experience.

Camp is a space that allows children to grow personally and explore the world around them in a safe and exciting environment. In today’s world that is filled with screens and busy schedules, camp takes us back to what is really important in childhood- exploring outside, making new friends, and stepping outside your comfort zone to try new things. So this summer, let’s let kids be kids, and help them develop into some pretty amazing people along the way.

Summer Day Camp: Endless Options

We can help you make this summer incredible for your child. From Sky Zone to soccer golf, and from pottery to princesses, our summer is filled with camps we know your child is going to love. And with over 30 locations across Indianapolis, we know there’s a camp around the corner for you, too. Feel like exploring the great outdoors? Check out one of our 5 nature camp locations, where campers will spend their summer connecting with nature, not wifi.

4 Types of Camp

The YMCA Camp Book has everything you need to know about camp, what’s offered at each location, what to bring, a typical camp schedule, how to register and more. Or you can skim through 2019 info on our Summer Day Camp website to learn more.

  1. Traditional Camp

Close your eyes and picture summer camp – archery, swimming, arts & crafts, field games. This is the traditional summer camp experience, where there is something for everyone to love. Campers will develop lifelong friendships, try things they’ve never tried before, and be somewhere they know they belong.

2. Sports Camp

YMCA Sports Camps help children develop proper techniques, while learning the value of sportsmanship. Sports Camps include drills, skill development, learning the rules of the game, and scrimmages in a non-competitive environment. Sports Camps are designed for all skill levels. These camps are not only about learning to play the sport but learning to love it! All equipment is provided.

3. Enrichment Camp

Looking to explore something new at camp this summer? Enrichment Camps offer opportunities to try something you’ve never tried before! From becoming a ninja warrior to creating tasty treats, there is a camp for everyone! Approximately three hours of each camp day will consist of Enrichment Camp curriculum. The remainder of the day is comprised of Traditional Camp activities.

4. Overnight Camp

Kids can also experience new adventures, gain independence and make lasting friends at mini-, one and two-week-long overnight camps at beautiful Flat Rock River YMCA Camp just 45 minutes south of Indianapolis.

We can’t wait to see what adventures we go on and memories we make this summer. Registration begins Jan. 19. We hope you join us!
