Small Group Training (SGT)

The Y’s Small Group Training (SGT) program is focused on T.E.A.M. Training. This is an effective way to get fit and stay motivated, and is growing in demand! The YMCA’s SGT Program is for people who want an extra edge in their training. Instructor “coaches” challenge small teams of 6 to 12 people to achieve a higher level of fitness through science-based, month-long progressive training using circuit, interval and cardio equipment.

Built-in Support:  ONE TEAM. ONE GOAL.

Small Group Training (SGT) gives you the built-in support and expertise of a certified trainer, plus a team environment to hold you accountable and keep it fun. YMCA members receive reduced pricing on SGT classes, although you do not have to be a member to sign up.

The SGT program focuses on four pillars that work together to keep your workouts fun and effective:

  1. Progressive Training Cycles – Keeps exercises safe and works through plateaus

  2. Specificity of Training – Targets your unique goals

  3. Results Driven – Shows progress being made

  4. Social Connections – Keeps activities fun and exciting, motivating everyone to come back week after week!

T.E.A.M. Training, a part of the Y’s Small Group Training (SGT) portfolio, sets the stage for a well rounded program. Fueled by MX4 and Synergy, this high intensity circuit format will develop all key areas of fitness: Strength, Cardiovascular and Flexibility, creating a great foundation to build your personalized SGT Experience.

T.E.A.M Combat (SGT: TKO Boxing)


Train Like a Champion

Challenge your cardiovascular and strength by combining boxing, kickboxing, martial arts using body weight, heavy bag, and partner work. This format offers a series of drills and challenges designed to help you improve agility and speed. Great for cross-training, this workout provides a unique mix of functional training and cardio to challenge the whole body. Gloves are provided, however, we do encourage you to bring your own and/or hand wraps.

T.E.A.M Combat is part of the Y’s Small Group Training (SGT) program, so you’ll also enjoy a small class setting and supportive team environment.

T.E.A.M Endurance (SGT: Ride Row Run)


Get Ready to Rev up Your Heart Rate!

T.E.A.M. Endurance, a part of the Y’s Small Group Training (SGT) portfolio, shows that endurance has never been more fun. This intense class uses a circuit format to get your heart rate up and keep it up. Strap on heart-rate monitors and improve your fitness and cardio endurance through intervals on bikes, rowers, and self-powered treadmills. This class has beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Challenge fellow team members as you work together to improve your cardiovascular endurance. In this SGT environment, you’ll enjoy a small class setting and supportive team atmosphere.

T.E.A.M Power (SGT: Push Power Pull)


Discover your Power

T.E.A.M. Power, a part of the Y’s Small Group Training (SGT) portfolio, will help you Push, Power, and Pull your way to fitness. This is plyometric training at its best. These workouts are designed to challenge every area of fitness to improve distance, speed, and reaction time.

T.E.A.M Strength (SGT: The Pit)


Clean and Jerk

T.E.A.M. Strength, a part of the Y’s Small Group Training (SGT) portfolio, is designed to improve strength. Take your training up a notch with this combination-style muscle-strength/muscle-endurance format. Incorporate Olympic-style lifting while learning proper technique and form. In this SGT environment, you’ll enjoy a smaller class setting and supportive team atmosphere.
