Intercollegiate Programs

The YMCA provides collegiate services to continue the pathway for young people to engage in programming and further develop their career skills to be successful after high school.  Programs will engage and support young adults (ages 18-24) through a unique model that partners with universities to develop new generations of changemakers who will create communities we all want to live in.

YMCA Internship Program

The YMCA Internship Program is currently being streamlined, updated, and re-designed with a Fall 2021 expected timeline for implementation.
The YMCA internship model will be designed to provide college students exposure to YMCA career opportunities via structured internships.  The model will provide students an opportunity to select a specific internship track from the Y's three areas of impact.
  • Youth Development – focuses on before and after school programs, camps, education, and preschool/early learning programs
  • Healthy Living – focuses on health-based initiatives, well-being and fitness, and sports and recreation
  • Social Responsibility – focuses on community development initiatives, volunteerism, and philanthropy

Students can expect the following components to be included during their YMCA internship experience:

  • Practical work experience, including at least one problem-solving project
  • An opportunity to observe, contribute, and rotate through different areas of the YMCA
  • Training, either “formal,” on-the-job or virtual/remote along with constructive, on-going feedback for personal and professional development
  • Career connections, mentorship, and networking opportunities within the YMCA and communities served
