Y Loves Vets

The new OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA will be a prominent community beacon in the most diverse township in Indianapolis. The cultural diversity of Pike Township makes a highly-visible, central community space essential.

OrthoIndy Foundation’s decision to support the project was driven by the inclusion of veteran-focused space and programming at this new Y. In addition to being a full-service facility open to the public, the new YMCA will include programs, facilities and services tailored to U.S. military service members, veterans and their families.

To permanently honor veterans at the site, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Arts Council conducted a national search for an artist to design a striking structural element for the new center. Sculptor Clay Enoch of the National Sculptor’s Guild was selected to build his piece, “SALUTE.”

SALUTE will include two 8-foot tall walls featuring five service men and women, each wearing a sculpted hat to represent their branch of service: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy.

Now, you can permanently add the name of a veteran to this one-of-a-kind artwork with a gift to the YMCA of $100 or more.  Stainless steel veterans’ plaques will each be 5” x 2”. Copy is limited to veterans rank, name and branch of service.
