Highlights: DACA Renewal Day, Day of Service, movie screenings, learning and more

YMCA staff will roll out welcome banners, wear “I am a Welcomer” badges, volunteer throughout the city and present free events and educational activities at its 13 locations throughout Greater Indianapolis in partnership with Welcoming America and the Immigrant Welcome Center during Welcoming Week, Sept. 15 – 24.

YMCA Day of Service – Hundreds of YMCA staffers will showcase our commitment to social responsibility by volunteering throughout the day for community organizations across Central Indiana.

This second documentary reveals the human cost in our food supply and the complicity of large buyers of produce like fast food and supermarkets. Bring your lunch!

Sept. 23

National YMCA Welcoming Day proclaimed by Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett –

Volunteers from the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, Immigrant Welcome Center, American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Neighborhood Legal Clinic and Catholic Charities Indianapolis will host a free DACA Renewal Day from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Avondale Meadows YMCA, 3908 Meadows Dr.

Volunteers will walk individuals through the citizenship process and assist in completing forms. Individuals can meet with a licensed attorney to prepare N-400 applications, find citizenship classes and other resources and spend the day at the YMCA.

Food Chains

Throughout the week, the YMCA will present educational activities at more than 120 Before and After School sites and share photos and information using hashtags #WelcomingWeek and #YforAll.

A national celebration of inclusion

Events hosted by the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis and Immigrant Welcome Center are part of a national celebration led by YMCA of the USAs and Welcoming America. Welcoming Week celebrates the growing movement of inclusive communities that fully embrace New Americans and their contributions to the social fabric of our country and brings together immigrants and U.S.-born residents to promote cross-cultural understanding and raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone.
