The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is proud to announce Tom Denari and Jeff Harrison as recipients of the James L. Kittle Achievement Award, the highest tribute that the YMCA’s Board of Directors can bestow upon a volunteer leader. This distinguished award honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, dedicated service and an unwavering commitment to advancing the mission of the Y.
Named in loving memory of its first recipient, James L. Kittle, Sr., the award celebrates volunteer leaders who exemplify the values and spirit of community that defined Jim’s extraordinary life. Jim’s affiliation with the YMCA began in childhood and evolved into a lifetime of service and impact. He served on the Board of Directors, chaired the Board of Trustees and led three capital campaigns, raising over $9 million. His vision and strategic leadership were rooted in a deep compassion for youth and a belief in the transformative power of the Y, especially for those facing disadvantage.
This year’s recipients carry forward that legacy in remarkable ways.
Tom Denari has served on the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis Board of Directors since 2005, including two terms as Board Chair in 2019 and 2020. Tom has guided the organization through one of its most challenging periods with resilience and foresight. He currently serves on the Association Board Executive Committee, the Collaborative Community Building Committee and as Chair of the Brand Experience Committee. His previous service includes the Finance and Healthy Community Committees.
Tom is also the President & CEO of Young & Laramore, where he brings strategic insight and creative leadership to his work. His dedication to the YMCA reflects a deep commitment to community engagement and organizational excellence.
Jeff Harrison has been a pillar of support for the YMCA for nearly two decades, serving as Board Chair from 2016 to 2019 and as a Trustee for more than 10 years. He continues to contribute as a member of the Finance Committee and has played a vital role in shaping the Y’s strategic direction and growth.
As President & CEO of Citizens Energy Group, Jeff is widely recognized for his leadership in driving sustainable development, fostering innovation and building strong civic partnerships across central Indiana. His influence has helped the YMCA deepen its reach and amplify its mission in meaningful ways.
“Tom and Jeff are exceptional leaders whose dedication and service have helped the YMCA grow stronger,” said Gregg Hiland, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. “They are more than volunteers, they are visionaries who embody the values of James Kittle and the enduring mission of the Y.”
The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is proud to honor these two distinguished individuals and celebrate their continued impact on our community.
