Pedal with a Purpose Cycle-a-Thon

April 17, 2025
NEWS + STORIES

At the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, we believe that when we come together, we can change lives one pedal stroke at a time.

This May, we invite you to be part of something extraordinary: our Ninth Annual Cycle-a-Thon, a high-energy, community-wide event that brings over 1,000 passionate participants together to raise vital funds that uplift and support our neighbors. Whether you’re a seasoned spinner or new to the bike, this event offers the chance to move your body, strengthen your spirit and make a lasting difference.

This isn’t just a workout, it’s a way to pedal for a purpose.

Why We Ride

Funds raised during the Cycle-a-Thon directly support the YMCA’s mission-driven programs, including:

Every dollar raised stays right here in our community, helping us create a healthier, more equitable, and more connected Indianapolis.

Real Lives Transformed: MaryAnne’s Story

Behind every pedal stroke is a story, and few are more inspiring than that of MaryAnne Elliott.

MaryAnne is a proud mother of nine children, whose ages range from toddler to teen. Life is full, joyful and yes, busy! Like many moms, MaryAnne was looking for a way to take care of herself after having her fifth child. She didn’t expect that walking into a spin class at the YMCA would change her life.

“I just wanted to lose some baby weight,” she says with a laugh. “But what I found was so much more.”

The class was led by veteran YMCA instructor Lisa Verona, whose name is well-known and well-loved in our community. With her electric energy, carefully curated playlists and focus on strength and endurance, Lisa quickly became an anchor in MaryAnne’s wellness journey.

“She’s fabulous,” MaryAnne says. “Lisa makes you want to keep pushing, not just physically, but mentally. Every class is different and every day is a learning experience.”

Since joining the Y, MaryAnne has completely transformed her body composition, building muscle mass, improving her sleep and gaining a deep sense of confidence. But beyond the physical gains, she’s found something even more precious: time for herself, space to heal and the strength to show up for her family with renewed energy.

“I never thought I could feel this strong,” MaryAnne shares. “Through Lisa’s class, the YMCA gave me the tools and community to take care of myself in ways I didn’t know I needed.”

Make Every Mile Count

The Cycle-a-Thon is more than a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of community, perseverance and the power we each have to lift one another up. It’s a place where first-timers and seasoned athletes ride side by side. Where stories like MaryAnne’s remind us of the strength within. Where the rhythm of the music fuels our bodies and the heart of the Y fuels our mission.

Together, we’re not just riding, we’re rewriting what’s possible.

So, grab your water bottle, hop on a bike and let’s ride for health, for healing and community.

We can’t wait to see you there.
