Eli Lilly gives back to the Indianapolis community during Global Day of Service

Every day, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis engages hundreds and thousands of people, from all walks of life. Whether it be helping a cancer survivor find their physical and emotional strength during treatment, feeding and educating hungry kids through our Before and After School programs or providing a reduced membership to someone who has fallen on hard times, the YMCA is a one-stop resource community center for all people.

But we can’t do it alone

Each year over 4,000 volunteers perform countless duties across our organization and help provide resources and support they need to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.

Recently, the Y welcomed over 100 Eli Lilly volunteers for their Global Day of Service- a day that highlights the company’s belief that as their employees engage in local communities and around the world, the experiences help them better understand the people Eli Lilly serves and sparks ideas for how Lilly can become a better company.

Over 70 Lilly volunteers traveled down to Flat Rock River YMCA Camp in St. Paul, Indiana and spent the day volunteering their time, talents and treasures. Led by Lilly team leads, Don Mitchell and Sujata Kolla, the crew did an incredible job of clearing trails, cleaning fences, gardening and painting – creating a more beautiful, engaging and serene camp experience for the kids.

Back in the city, Becky Scott lead 35 more Eli Lilly volunteers as they painted, gardened and weeded planter boxes in front of the YMCA at the City Market while six Lilly volunteers helped restore wood throughout the over 150 year old building and also helped weed and care for the rain garden at the historic YMCA at the Athenaeum. Our downtown Y’s have never been more inviting! We could not have done this without Lilly.

A huge thank you to Don Mitchell, Sujata Kolla, Becky Scott and the incredible IT team, who combined gave over 13 hours of service that day, at Eli Lilly for all you do for our communities!
